Oh how educational!

Just something interesting I saw while I was at KLCC last Sunday. I happened to pass by KLCC's PetroSains. I stopped awhile to recollect all the sweet memories I had of that place. This is by far the most well kept science centre in Malaysia.

Its been many years, but I could still remember my first of many visits to Petrosains-the dinasaurs, the helicopter simulator, and the earth quake generator are the few prominet things that I could remember of that place. And not to forget the "Dark Tunnel" ride!

I was there last Sunday with my friend and we decided to just browse through the gift shop to check out the nifty gadgets on display there (Yes, I admit I am one of those guys who was amazed by a telescope).

I found this very interesting contraption. Say, I don't really know how it works but it sure on sale for some educational purposes. I could imagine kids begging their parents to get them one of these and watch the faces of their parents turn tomato red in the process.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present you.....

I wasted 80 minutes of my life

Today I was at KLCC to watch the new movie "Forbidden Kingdom". The movie was awesome until it stopped. What are the odd right! Well if chances of this happening is one in a billion, I was that one billionth movie goer.

The screen just stopped abruptly like that. Brown spots started forming on the screen and turned darker and finally turned black. It was not over! Those spots turned into holes. Just imagine yourself putting a piece of paper over a burning match.

It looked something like this but it actually burnt into two pieces. You could actually see the two parts flipping around.

My ticket got refunded but still I left with that irritated feeling for not being able to watch a movie till the end. Plus it stopped at the climax! Jackie Chan was dying (oops!) and it was the climax of the film. I hope someone from TGV (double oops!) is reading this. I HATE YOU!!!

Freezing for World Earth Day at Sunway Piramid

Freeze for World Earth Day, held at Sunway Piramid. It was fun as it was my first time. However, I am not too sure about the environment thing. Most people who turned up were just looking for fun (including me!) and to check out what the “freeze” hype is all about.

I had dinner prior to the event and guess what. The WHOLE organising team just walked in, including the guys from Hitz.fm and sat right next to my table! They were talking about the event, the urge to say hi was so great but I just restrained cause’ they looked pretty busy.

The meeting point was at the Sunway Piramid Skating Ring where we would get our instructions. Somehow, the organisers were pretty late and the crowd got kinda restless. Even after it was well past 7.30 the guy who was supposed to pass on the instructions did not get the signal to distribute them.

Hashim, part of the organising team

At that time I met someone from Germany. She happened to be in town for the holiday and always wanted to do a freeze. Her name is Evy. Everyone was really friendly which AMAZES me.

Evy(left) from Germany. Me and my sister in matching green shirts!

Normally people would hide behind their walls and it would be so hard to talk to them. I don’t blame them. Nowadays, people are taking advantage of others through friendship and it’s really hard to make good friends in this modernised world.

Back to the event. I DID NOT get my instructions!!! I saw the crowd moving so I followed suit. We moved to the Jusco/Osim part of the shopping mall. But I noticed that people were so concentrated at the centre and did not spread out like the we told to. You would laugh if you were there. It was REALLY obvious that they were going to do something.

I got this paper from a group of people.
They were kind enough to let me keep it =)

We had a countdown and we started our 5 minute freeze. The four of us (me, my sister, classmate Khairin, and Evy) froze. I was acting as a snatch thief pulling away my sister’s bag while Khairin and Evy were shocked onlookers. The public loved it =) and they kept taking our pictures. I even had a guy stuffing a camera right in front of my face! Well we stood a short distance away from the main crowd so we did goet a good amount of attention.

By the 4th minute my legs were already shaking. The crowd erupted into cheer and I “thawed” with relief. All in all it was definitely a great experience for me. However, I just thought that the cause (Freezing for World Earth Day) did not really click with the event.

Come on…..people travelled so far just to get to this 4 minute event and God knows how much petrol they consumed in the process. We should have just frozen for something like…..erm….World Stanley Day? =) But still the organizers deserve praise for putting everything together in such a short time and also their efforts in creating awareness towards the environment.

Stanley Awards- "Wrong Picture of the Year"

Welcome one and all to the Stanley Awards 2008. Today I will be giving out an award, the Wrong Picture of the Year 2008! After browsing through so many entries by so many people over so many countries. Wrong picture of year 2008 goes to...... *drumroll*

Tada!

Hahhahah....this was taken just yesterday during my school's field trip for the Form 5 students. We went to the Pusat Sains Negara (National Science Center) and Planetarium. It was fun, educational, informative and great! I LOVE THE FACT THAT WE GOT TO LEARN SO MUCH! ALL THE INFO WAS JUST SO EXCITING. I NEVER KNEW THAT THE EARTH REVOLVED AROUND THE SUN BEFORE THIS!

Lolz. Well the trip was "boring" in that matter. Many students have been to those places many times over. The good was was hanging out with friends and teachers. It was more how you would say "Oprah" than "Einstein".

About that picture up there, that was taken in the "Zero Gravity" chamber in Planetarium. People got kinda bored and started pushing each other around. And before you know it, WWE!!!
Everyone was slamming into each other just for the heck of it. I, being the one holding an expensive looking camera got some sort of immunity =)

Another highlight was in the National Science Center. I got to play with bubbles!!! It so happened that my school went on the very day when the science center had this "Special Science Day" thing going on. So there's this huge hall where there were lots of interactive stuff. It was great for me considering all the other exhibits were either under maintenances or not working.

You could see from the look of my face that I was fascinated =)

A miser and his money

“Please sir, please give me some money to buy bread,”a little girl asked pitifully. She was tugging at Mr. Andrew’s pants.

Mr. Andrew here is the main character of our story. He is the richest guy in town. Sadly, he is not the nicest. In fact he is well known for this character of his, that little kids call him Bob. No one knows why but I am sure they do not mean well.

What happened to the little girl who was tugging at his pants? Mr. Andrew shoved her away without even looking at her. No surprise here though as he did that to everyone who has ever asked him for help. A normal person would feel pity or even a tiny bit of compassion but to Mr. Andrew she was nothing but another person trying to take his money away.

Well, Mr. Andrew is at the market place to buy groceries. Nope, he does not have anyone to do his shopping for him. He never got married or bothered employing someone. He would not because he refuses to pay a decent wage. The streets were full of people in need. They sat there by the dirty gutter which was buzzing with flies. The sight and smell of it would make you choke. Mr. Andrew was oblivious to his surroundings. After all he came to buy fish and nothing else.

“I’ll give you 10 dollars, nothing more!” Mr. Andrew shouted at the fishmonger. “Don’t overcharge me just because I am rich!!!”

Truth is that the fish Mr. Andrew wanted to buy was really expensive. It was a new fishmonger and stingy Mr. Andrew wanted to take advantage of it.

“But this fish has special properties! Its magic.” the fishmonger argued.

Mr. Andrew dismissed the fishmonger as a lunatic. He paid for the fish anyway and went home. He hopes to find out what the fish can do and sell it for a profit. Curiosity grabbed his mind as to what the fish could do. Well, what could a dead fish do?

Mr. Andrew never found out. A group of people covered with masks jumped out of the bushed and attacked him. He screamed out for help. However, the world was oblivious to him just as he was to it. Nobody “heard” him.

Blow after blow landed on his body. He started begging for his life. The pain was getting more excruciating by the minute. He was bleeding all over yet the beating continued. Time seemed to slow down, making the experience more unbearable.

If the motive was to steal Mr. Andrew’s money, the attackers would not have taken too long. They would have taken it and left anyway. These people were clearly there to hurt him. There people were the beggars on the street, the people whom Mr. Andrew had shoved aside when they begged him for money. Recently, Mr. Andrew made a petition to the city council to kick out all the beggars from the city. He was taking away the very little that they have.

So, they decided to take justice into their own hands. Every blow they landed gave them an eerie feeling of satisfaction. A famous man once said that people forget who they were in violence. They thought of the little girl who Mr. Andrew shoved aside earlier and pounded even harder. She could not take the hunger anymore and collapsed on the streets……dead.

Mr. Andrews could not move anymore. The attackers have left him for dead on the road. He tried moving but wasted his energy trying. His backbone was broken to bits thus paralysing him. The sun was setting and the chill was setting in. The win blew unmercifully at him. He was left exposed to the cold as his clothes had been torn to rage.

He breathed out his last breath as his spirit left his body. He does not know I yet but he was doomed to a fate worst than the beating he had moments ago. Heaven was definitely not his final destination.

Did you like it? I wrote it for a recent school assignment. I have to say my writing style have evolved along the years. Last time I started off with creative writing where I would write geziboracliciously entertaining pieces but full of nonsense.

Teachers had fun reading those essays but as you grow up you realize that its time to move on. So now, I try to be more descriptive in my writing, you know, show a little maturity =)

The Official Mascot of "stanleyliew.blogspot.com"

I call this Kuku Santo Nama Budaya 2.3.1.3.5.4.9.6 (lolz.....*stanley laughs and is amazed by how funny he is*)

But seriously, I found it in my microwave oven yesterday. I was melting butter and there it was, this clump of stuff. It caught my attention and I actually spent like 10+ minutes just staring at it.

What is it? My brain started its train of thoughts trying to comprehend that particular item ahead of me.

Then it dawned upon me. Last week I was defrosting nuggets in the microwave. I guess I might have left one behind in the microwave. Notice the already blackened top the nugget and the moss. I think it has its own ecosystem there!

Personal message from Stanley

I don't know about you but I'm getting REALLY worried about the condition of our Malaysian weather. Right now, it should be the "dry" season yet it rains so heavily every now and then.

You know what makes it worse? The rain is actually destroying all our durian! DURIAN!!! OMG! Too much water makes the durian flesh to be soggy, loosing its texture.

Therefore, pass on this message to everyone else. I, Stanley, hereby tag you, O blog readers to pass on this message of peace to our fellow Malaysians. *cue inspirational music*

Stop global warming. Save the durians.

ps: All you BRATs are tagged =)

Reminiscense of 2007

Just one of the fun things I did last year. This was a class trip to Genting Highlands with my classmates. This picture cost 10 bucks okay!!! By the way, those three girls are my classmates too =)
