Little India, Singapore

I visited this place with my dad during our last visit to Singapore. We had SO MUCH good food during that trip I think it warrants another visit...soon. Little India has very distinct character. The moment I stepped out of the MRT station, I was hit with a strong whiff of spices.

Its crazy how the whole place smells that way, in a good way of course. Interesting place to take pictures as well and it has a very nice authentic feel to it despite it being quite small. One may call it a tiny slice of India in the heart of metropolitan Singapore.

This Week's Ramblings

Photobucket

This week have just been really...bleh. Some people just don't know how the repercussions of their actions could effect other people. Consequently, I'm feeling really drained having to deal with so much at one time with exams around the corner. And a few individuals are not making things any easier.

Song of the week:

Gravity
by John Mayer

Gravity is working against me
And gravity wants to bring me down

Oh I'll never know what makes this man
With all the love that his heart can stand
Dream of ways to throw it all away

Oh Gravity is working against me
And gravity wants to bring me down

Oh twice as much ain't twice as good
And can't sustain like a one half could
It's wanting more
That's gonna send me to my knees

Oh gravity, stay the hell away from me
And gravity has taken better men than me

Just keep me where the light is
Just keep me where the light is
Just keep me where the light is
C'mon keep me where the light is
C'mon keep me where the light is
Oh... where the light is!

Friends are even noticing the stress on my face. I find it troubling because I thought that I've always been good at masking those feeling, hiding them behind a calm exterior. Its not that I want to bottle it all inside, I just don't want to people to worry. Everyone have enough to deal with as it is and you cant have everyone breaking down at the same time.

Events that occurred this past week placed me in such a tight spot, testing my principles and patience. Many people had to make tough decisions and deal with the effects of it. Why did it have to come down to this? Part of me wished that something could be done way earlier to prevent this from happening.

Thing is, it happened and there is nothing I can do now. A friend once told me "Don't worry, its not your fault it rained". I found it funny but how true it is that I can get so bummed at things that are obviously out of my control.

I've learn to leave all these impossible things to God. After all that's what he's good at and I have been convinced many times over and over again.

At the same time I'm grateful for friends and people in my life for their support. Its those little things people do like asking how you are or that reassuring squeeze on the shoulder or ambushing you with a hug or watching movies at the sixth form center.

Right now I really miss the family. I could use some home cooked food and a hug right now.

Wall Street

This is quite the posh place to walk around. People walk around with branded coffee in their hands with their tailored suits and stretched limousines pass you every few minutes. I went to see THE bull and there were tons of people taking pictures with it.

THE bull is one of those attractions that I really don't get. Its reasonable to be fascinated by the Statue of Liberty but a golden cow? Get over it guys.

My visit to Wall Street was not planned actually. I was in the area for the Staten Island Ferry, the one that people take to see the Statue of Liberty. So since I was around the area, we might as well.

Chinese Food Takeout, New York

There's only so much hot dogs and burgers a Chinese can eat until he starts craving for familiar food. You got one very good example here. Its also one of the cheapest food you can get around New York quantity wise. For five dollars you can get this ginormous packet of fried noodles! I find it interesting how everything is exactly as depicted in television, from the accent down to the menu items like 'moo shoo pork' and 'kung pow chicken'.

Something Fruity on Wall Street

stanley liew,me and the world, farmers market, new york, united states, manhattan, wall street, photographyStumbled upon this little farmer's market in Wall Street. I taking a quick stroll through the whole 'golden bull' area doing all the touristy stuff before heading for the Staten Island Ferry.
Fruits sold here are different from the tropical ones we get here in Malaysia; watermelon, durians, mango, etc. In this market you'll find stuff like blueberries, grapes that look like blueberries, and apples on steroids. Seriously, the apples were bigger than the size of both my fists put together. Apparently this is the type people use to make pies.

Its funny how fascinated I was considering this set up is not much different from ours here in Malaysia. You have the same tents and cardboard signs, minus the humidity. Haih, perception.

New York City, The Streets

As requested by Sue Jan =D

Here are some random shots taken while walking around New York City. Its a little challenging to keep things interesting. Hip shooting was a big fail, got to practice more because everything was just blurry! Plus New Yorkers are generally more private people, and are not very open to photographs. I think I got the death stare a number of times. So photographs have to be taken in a more discrete manner or the other option is that I just need to put on a really thick face. But I'm a tourist and they'll probably never see my face again, so its all good.

View from the Yellow Cab

Straight off a 20+ hour flight, including transit I was desperate to get to the hotel quick without any fuss. In flight entertainment was good though, KLM has an extensive collection of movies and tv shows. At that point of time, taking the cab was a really good idea. Sitting back against those leather seats, I took in the surroundings; noticing that we're driving down the opposite side of the road, how all the houses we passed by seemed to be detached, and all these playing to the soundtrack of our cab driver yakking away on his hands free.

Looking around just made me wonder for a moment. How in the wold did I end up here, halfway across the globe? Anyway as the title suggests, here are some views from the yellow cab.
